We opened the tournament on a positive note beating both Biggar and Dillon. Our last Friday game, however, is one we would like to forget. We lost to Goodsoil because of some bad passing. Saturday night we regrouped by hitting up the dance, "schooling" Vaughn in the art of Xbox FIFA (he tells me that he is now taking lessons from Chuck Norris and wants a rematch), and making bunch of noise. Saturday morning we faced Leader, whom we beat, then Englefeld, who we lost two close sets to (fyi: they made the final...just imagine if our whole team had been there). After some weird splits we were sadly demoted to the consolation side. Tell made a furious dash from his plane to Maidstone and showed up for the Edam game which we won handily. We faced Onion Lake in the semis and lost a close one in three sets (mad props to Onion Lake, they have a strong team this year).
Although the boys did not have high hopes going into the tournament their expectations quickly changed once they saw the competition. For the returning players from last year, the level of competition was drastically different from that of last year. Most teams seem to have lost their strongest players and all of a sudden it was "hey, we have a shot at this...even without two key players". The veterans will be the first to tell you that they are proud of the team. For our rookies - it was a tremendous opportunity at receiving invaluable playing time. I saw so much growth from them this tournament and am proud of the way they played. As always, the team conducted themselves with class. They were equally impressed with Glaslyn's classiness and sportsmanship. Although they did not get a chance to play them, they asked if I could like something up. All in all, a not bad weekend.
Below is a short highlight clip we threw together (filmed by Vaughn)
